Backyard Ideas
Finally we have our dream property and it has a backyard that has filled our heads with great backyard ideas. we have been waiting 25 years to own the home that has a great backyard.
I have always been a pretty traditional housekeeper. You see, I work from home and both my wife and I entertain clients at the house. It is a mistake to have a house that is too daring and adventurous if it is where you also do business. It can be pretty hard for me, however. I am pretty playful in many ways, and I love to be able to change my surroundings to fit my whims. This is why I let myself indulge in some pretty outlandish backyard landscaping ideas. If I did not have a chance to put some of my backyard ideas into play, it would not even feel like this house was mine.
Not every backyard ideas that I have is off the wall. Some of them, as a matter of fact, are pretty straight forward. I have a garden filled with beautiful flowers and a winding path. I have normal looking box hedges there to block off the yard from my neighbors. From there, however, things get pretty strange. I really let my imagination have the chance to run wild when I am landscaping the backyard.
A lot of my backyard ideas involve raised walkways and catwalks. We have an above ground pool in the middle of the yard, and right now I am building an elevated walkway to it. The walkway, however, does not actually reach the pool. Instead, it stops above it. This means that you can climb out the second floor window, take a few steps and jump into the pool. If this design works well, I might even build a zip line next, but who knows.
A lot of my design is based on backyard party ideas. A lot of people around here have backyard fire pits, but they aren't like mine. This is perhaps the most impressive backyard fire pit you have ever seen! It is 6 feet across and surrounded by a bronze lip to keep the fire inside. It might seem like one of those showy, non-functional backyard ideas when you first get a look at it, but it is really impressive at night. It lights up almost the whole yard, and the flame reflecting off of the bronze is really quite impressive. When I see some of my stranger and more creative backyard ideas work out, it always makes me feel proud. After all, not everyone would have the guts to try the things that I do!
We have started gardening in our backyard and now we eat fresh produce all summer long and even share them with friends and neighbours.
Both my wife and myself have dreamed of having a backyard garden but had to wait until we had that space to start growing and now we do. It's a great hobby.

How About A Backyard Fire Pit?
I grew up in central Ontario, Canada, on a farm. I was introduced to fire pit cooking by my older foster brother. He used the tractor to dig most of the fire pit and then we finished the rest with shovel. I was a bit young to be of much help but that didn't stop me from trying. That experience put a burning desire in me to one day build my own fire pit.
Unfortunately where my wife and I live we can't just dig a big hole in the backyard and put in a fire pit. We can have one above ground and that works for me and I don't have to worry about breaking any local laws.
When I grew up, I always wanted a backyard fire pit. Backyard fire pits, however, were not on my parents agenda. We did not see eye to eye on fire. Most little boys, in fact, do not see eye to eye with their parents when the topic is fire. You see, I have met very few young men - or even old men for that matter - who are not somewhat obsessed with fire. From the sulfurous scent and sudden flare of a match, to the great explosions of fireworks and bombs, boys love anything that glows, burns, or blows up. The backyard fire pit, however, seems the ultimate luxury to the young man. It is a way to worship the fire god in the privacy of your own home.
Building a fire pit is so easy, in fact, that once we made our own without our parent's permission. Needless to say, they were not thrilled. Whether or not they secretly admired our ingenuity in designing and building a backyard fire pit, gathering scrap wood, and having a fire while they were gone is something I will never know. All I know is that I was grounded for a month for that backyard fire pit. I learned my lesson. I didn't get caught next time.
When I finally had the resources and time to have a permanent backyard fire pit, I was a little bit less do it yourself about it. Do it yourself landscaping is all well and good, but something things should be manufactured if possible. My first backyard fire pit in my new house is made out of stones, but I quickly tired of that design. It is difficult to clean out backyard fire pits that you can't remove. I decided on getting a metal backyard fire pit. When it was lowered into the ground, it looked just like any other one. It was surrounded by stones and filled with flames. When cooled down, however, you could remove the whole backyard fire pit, leaving only a hole in the ground. You could dump out the ash, clean it out, and put it back. It greatly simplified the process.
I'm not saying that there is no place for building an outdoor fire pit. A backyard fire pit has to start with a hole in the ground and a ring of rocks, and you do that yourself. Buying something to fit inside it, however, is a really practical solution. It will last forever, and it will make your backyard firepit cleanups much easier.
